Love is In The Air: How to Spend Valentine’s Day in London

Valentine Celebration

The New Year is just around the corner, and that means that Valentine’s Day isn’t far away either. Deciding how to spend February 14th with your other half can be a difficult process, but thankfully Londoners and those visiting the capital are spoilt for choice when it comes to options in what is one of the most romantic cities in the world.

Have a romantic dinner with a view at The Shard

Romantic Dinner

The tallest building in London, unsurprisingly, boasts some pretty spectacular views of the city. The observation platform, The View from The Shard, is twice the height of any other viewing platform in London, but we think you’re better off spending your money at one of the fantastic restaurants, which are not quite as high but still offer stunning views of the capital. Aqua Shard, on the 31st floor, offers innovative contemporary British cuisine and a stunning three-tiered atrium bar. The darkly stylish Oblix, one floor higher, is an upscale grill restaurant. After dinner, head up to Chinese-inspired cocktail bar GONG, on the 52nd floor, where you can sit back and enjoy the view with a sundowner in hand.

Embark on a sightseeing tour

Sightseeing London

London is home to a great number of iconic buildings, monuments, bridges and parks which make it a brilliant destination to explore with your other half. One of the best ways to explore is on a double decker London bus – itself an iconic symbol of the city. There are innumerable bus tours around London, including some specifically geared towards couples: The Love Bus is a couples-only, luxurious evening open bus tour, with blankets, chocolates and champagne creating a mellow, romantic mood. There’s even a musician on board to serenade you. For a more private experience, Get Your Guide offer a chauffeur-driven tour in that most London of cars: a restored classic Mini Cooper. Your chauffeur doubles as a knowledgeable tour guide, taking you to places like the Globe Theatre, where countless love stories have been played out on the stage; the beautiful St. Paul’s Cathedral, which is a popular spot for wedding proposals; and many others. If you’re looking for a hotel in central London to spend Valentine’s Day, Montcalm London City Suites is a luxurious property brilliantly located for visiting all the attractions listed above.

Go horse riding in Hyde Park

London is famous for its expansive green spaces, unrivalled perhaps anywhere in the world in their size and number, and Hyde Park is the most iconic of the lot, home to a number of famous landmarks including the Serpentine Lake, Speakers’€™ Corner and the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain. There’s no better, or more romantic, way to experience Hyde Park than on horseback, and Hyde Park Stables allows you to do just that, all year round. Experienced riders and newbies alike are welcome, with horses and ponies chosen for their safe temperament. There are five miles of bridleways, and two outdoor riding arenas for more formal horse riding lessons, dressage, and jumping for children. These include the Rotten Row track, the most famous equestrian venue in England.
